Arsenal are interested in Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, reports The Telegraph. The Gunners are looking for reinforcements following injuries to Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling, but it would be difficult to persuade Wolves to let the 25-year-old leave considering how vital he is to their hopes of Premier League survival.
Arsenal hold an interest in Wolves forward Matheus Cunha but would face a huge battle landing him during the transfer window while the Brazilian is involved in a fight for survival at Molineux.
It is understood that Arsenal’s interest in the 25-year-old was sparked before the injury of Bukayo Saka, who will be out for “many weeks” with a hamstring problem suffered against Crystal Palace. Raheem Sterling is also out with a knee problem to limit Mikel Arteta’s forward options.
Cunha, who arrived from Atlético Madrid two years ago and eventually signed permanently for £44 million, has been on Arsenal’s radar after his form over the last three campaigns. In his only full season in the Premier League he scored 14 goals in all competitions and this season has put in eye-catching performances despite Wolves struggling.
With Wolves in the bottom three for much of the campaign, they are fighting to preserve their top-flight status for an eighth successive season and are thought to be extremely reluctant to let one of their key players leave in January.
The Brazilian was also linked with United in the summer and his stock has only risen with his performances for Wolves. He has scored 10 goals in the Premier League, including his audacious strike from a corner kick against Amorim’s men.
And after watching his side fail to defend Cunha, Amorim and the former Atletico Madrid man in conversation whilst sharing a hug on the Molineux pitch. The exchange has led to many supporters believing the United boss was doing his best to convince the 25-year-old to join him in January.
